Breaking Ground to Build Futures: Burke Foundation Invests $500,000 in New Childcare Center

Princeton, NJ, May 15, 2020

On Monday, May 11, YWCA Princeton began major renovations to improve its existing facilities and programs. The construction includes a new childcare wing named The Burke Foundation Center for Childhood through a leadership gift from The Burke Foundation and is scheduled to be completed in time for the fall 2020 school year.

The renovated state-of-the-art wing will house all childcare and early education programs, including childcare for children aged 8 weeks – 6 years old, Bilingual Nursery School classes, and free preschool classes through Princeton Public Schools. The facility will include three classrooms for infants –20 months, two classrooms for ages 20 –30 months, one classroom for ages 2-year to Pre-K, and three classrooms for the Pre-K Princeton School District free preschool program. In addition, building renovations will include a lactation room for mothers.

“This gift from The Burke Foundation is more than a donation to YWCA Princeton–it’s a gift to the community. Families will benefit from the enhanced atmosphere, amenities, and security of our programs at The Burke Foundation Center for Childcare for years to come,” said YWCA Princeton CEO Judy Hutton.

“We believe the first five years are the most critical for brain development and, therefore, high-quality early child care can have one of the highest returns on investment for our society. The Burke Foundation is proud to invest in the YWCA Princeton’s new childcare center to provide engaging, interactive, and stimulating educational experiences that build a solid foundation for young children. We look forward to supporting the bright futures of children and families in our community through this ground-breaking partnership,” said James Burke, President of the Burke Foundation.

YWCA Princeton thanks The Burke Foundation for its generosity and commitment to transforming birth to early childhood systems in New Jersey.
